2026 K/O – Cup/Plate Semi Final

Petsas Rangers vs Crazy Spoon 2nd Leg Semi Final

Noel for Petsas Rangers & Stefan from Crazy Spoons, sudden death, 1 frame play off

The 1st leg result last week was Crazy Spoons 11 - Petsas Rangers 4. With the Crazy Spoons handicap of minus 3, the match started Rangers 4 - Crazy Spoons 8. Rangers needed a further 12 points to win - Spoons needed a 8 points to win.

The 1st match of the evening could not have been more exciting with Spoons ex-professional snooker player Stefan against Rangers stalwart Terry. These two have played a few times, yet Stefan has not lost a match in 6 months of playing in the pool leagues. The 1st frame saw both players potting, then Stefan did what Stefan does, and showed his potting skill to win the 1st frame. The 2nd frame started in much the same way with Stefan doing his usual clearance, but after an attempted positioning shot, he potted his ball but the black rolled off into a middle pocket. 2nd frame to Terry. In frame 3 the battle commenced. Stefan found it a bit of a struggle on the newly clothed and cushioned table with tighter pockets than his home table. This gave Terry the advantage, and with his potting skills managed to take the win 2-1 and Stefans' unbeaten run ended.

Overall score so far Rangers 6 – Spoons 9.

The 2nd match was between old teammates, both playing different teams. Noel for Petsas against Allan (the Melling Masher) Richardson. The 1st frame was tight with both players playing well. Then towards the end with Noel needing just the black ball to win, Allan with one remaining red, played a tricky snooker on Noel. Noel attempts a cushion shot which narrowly missed the black and hit Allans’ red ball an inch from the black which was sitting on the pocket. After a bit of thinking, and with ball in hand Allan planned how to get out of his predicament. With an amazing shot he managed to get his red ball to the pocket at the other end of the table. With his second shot he clears the remaining red and black. The 2nd frame was another back and fourth game, but with a few good shots by Noel he claimed this frame to make it 1-1. Frame 3 saw both players playing well, until Noel took his chance to pot 3 balls and the back to win 2-1.

Overall score so far – Rangers 8 – Spoons 10

Match 3 was between Mark P for Rangers and Tony for Spoons. The 1st 2 frames were close games and ended with both players winning one each. Same again with the third game, coming to a conclusion when Tony, with one ball left, and Mark on a long black down the cushion. Mark missed the black, but left Tony with an awkward shot as the black was impeding the pocket where yellow was left. Tony then tried a safety shot which was played a little too hard leaving an easy black for Mark to pot to win 2-1.

Rangers have been chipping away at the points with the overall score so far - Petsas 10 - Crazy Spoons 11.

The 4th match was between Mark F for Rangers and Luke for Spoons. Two well matched players took the 1st two frames 1 – 1. In the 3rd frame Mark seemed to up his game to take the win 1-2. Rangers took the match to all square.

Match 5 was between Chris for Rangers and Sandy for Spoons. Both great players, this was another close affair but Chris’ potting prowess under pressure shone through to take the match 2-0 giving Petsas all 3 points.

Score now was Rangers 15 - Spoons 12. Rangers needed 1 point to win, Spoons needed all 3 points to force a sudden death, single frame play off.

The last game was between Paul for Rangers and Spoons Captain Andrew. With maximum pressure on Andy, his potting skill took control of both games securing a 0-2 win, three points and levelled the match 15-15.

Sudden death playoff

A final single frame was to decide the outcome of the match. Stefan who had previously left to run Crazy Spoons was soon to make his return to play the final game against Noel selected by a Petsas Rangers team vote. Noel won the coin toss and proceeded to break. The tension in the room just mounting! A battle had started. Both playing and showing their incredible potting ability. Then a yellow from Stefan jawing in the pocket gave Noel the chance he was waiting for and with a few class pots and a perfect position on the black, Noel won the game and the semi-final match for Petsas Rangers.
